Cathay Pacific Lounges
Cathay Pacific
Hong Kong 1998

The commission creates first and business class lounges for Cathay Pacific - the equivalent of a flagship store for the airline - within Norman Foster's airport building in Hong Kong.

Key was preservation of the spectacular views - both of Foster's architecture and of the comings and goings of planes outside - whilst creating sheltered enclaves for drinking, dining, working, bathing or relaxing.

Etched glass screens provide privacy whilst not entirely blocking the view of the double-height departure lounge below. Water - and particularly the effect of light on water - is used to foster a sense of tranquility.
