The Perini Navi Company was set up in 1980 by Fabio Perini. Its shipyards in Viareggio produce vessels which characteristically combine technical brilliance with refined design and the highest standards of accommodation. One of the driving principles of the Perini vision is the development of yachts which, provision for crew notwithstanding, can be sailed single-handedly.

The commission involves taking a particular set of spatial principles and applying them to the design of the 50-metre Perini Navi cruising yacht. The scope of work encompasses the design of living and entertaining spaces on and below deck. The character of the relationship between inside and out is a consistent priority in architecture, but on board a ship acquires unique significance where it is all too easy to feel isolated from one’s ocean context.
